Sad Days, Glad Days: A Story about Depression by DeWitt Hamilton, illustrated by Gail Owens. This picture book is written from the view of a young girl with a mother suffering from depression who tells the story of how she became the owner of her cat, or rather, how the cat became the owner of her family. As a mother who has grappled with the difficulties of explaining her mental illness to her child, I was especially touched by this book, and grateful as well. I took it home for my son to read and for us to discuss. I would recommend it for any child who loves someone with a mental illness like depression. We have several copies available for checkout.
